Why Do People Need Surrogates?
The reason intended parents need surrogates vary widely, but the most common are due to age, infertility, history of miscarriages, same-sex couples or hysterectomy. Regardless of the reason, the families who need surrogates all want the same thing: a child or children to love.
A Review of Basic Criteria for Prospective Surrogates
There are several requirements to becoming a surrogate mother. The list below outlines the initial requirements:
- You must have had at least one child of your own
- You must live in one of the following states: California, Texas, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Arkansas, Illinois, or Florida
- You must be between the ages of 21 and 41
- Absolutely NO smoking or drug use
- Not currently on government assistance or welfare
- Must have reliable transportation
- No criminal history (either you or your spouse/partner)
- Must be willing to submit to medical testing
- Must have a family who supports your decision
