Becoming a surrogate (gestational carrier)
Becoming a gestational carrier is one of the greatest gifts you can give to someone who wants a child – whether that’s a single mother or father, a heterosexual couple or a gay couple. Your desire to help intended parents build their family through surrogacy is a noble one. The intended parents we work with, who come from all over the world, are so very grateful to this key person, their gestational carrier, who helps create their family. Our surrogates do this to give the gift of parenthood to someone else while helping their own families in the process. Both reasons are equally compelling and generous. We hope you will continue to research surrogacy further and consider this opportunity. After you give it some thought, feel free to complete our online surrogate application.
Surrogates are the “dream-carriers” for the families who need them, so it’s important to us that you always feel fully supported as you take this journey.
To that end, we’ve included some additional benefits that come with being a surrogate through Gifted Journeys.
Why Do People Need Surrogates
(Gestational Carriers)?
Reasons vary, but the most common are age, infertility, a history of miscarriages, same-sex couples or hysterectomy. Regardless of the reason, the families who need gestational carriers all want the same thing: a child or children to love.

The Gifted Journeys Difference
We not only want to be there to help make this process enjoyable and rewarding with the family you help, but also want to become the place you, the surrogate, can rely on along the way. In addition to staff accessibility, we offer on-going surrogacy support groups that include an additional financial incentive. This allows you to form friendships and bonds with other surrogates, speak with licensed therapists who work directly in the field of surrogacy, and most importantly, never have a moment in which you feel alone. We also offer a Surrogate Health and Wellness Family Benefit Package, which include financial gifts for your children’s’ future, all expense paid “fun days” with your family, plus much, much more.
In addition to on-going support and our benefit packages, Gifted Journeys offers a unique program called Mindful Surrogacy. This is an on-going program created for surrogates to maintain a positive, empowered, honored and mindful experience before, during and after the pregnancy. The basics of this program are:
- Guided meditations
- Journaling
- Loving Communication
- Honoring Self and Intended Parents
- Body Image and Food Relationships
- Setting Emotional Boundaries
- Releasing Fear
- Postpartum healing
One of our surrogacy directors will oversee your case from the time you apply until the time you deliver. Being a gestational surrogate with us means you will be treated with dignity and respect and we are always aware that you are willing to give a life-changing gift to hopeful parents who would not be able to do this without you.

FAQ’s for Prospective Surrogates
(Gestational Carriers)
Do I have to use my own eggs?
Definitely not. Gifted Journeys facilitates gestational surrogacy only, which means only donor eggs or eggs from the intended mother will be used.
How long will it take to find someone in need of a surrogate (gestational carrier)?
It’s always hard to say exactly how long it will take to match you with an intended parent as factors like timing, travel, etc. all play into the process, but generally speaking it shouldn’t take more than a month or two.
How does this work with my insurance?
If you don’t currently have insurance, or your current insurance specifically does not cover surrogacy, a separate medical and life insurance policy will be taken out specifically for your surrogacy journey.
What do I need to do to be approved as a surrogate (gestational carrier)?
Before we can start any part of the process, we must have your previous pregnancy and birth records, your most recent pap results, a letter from your OB that you are safe to carry a surrogacy pregnancy, be financially stable and have a good support system in your life.
Will all my expenses be covered?
There should be no ‘out-of-pocket’ cycle-related expenses to you, the surrogate, throughout your surrogacy journey.
Will I need to take injections?
Yes. As a surrogate, there is a series of injectable medications that you will need to take until the end of your first trimester of pregnancy.
Does your surrogacy agency work with all types of families?
Gifted Journeys strongly believes that love makes a family. We do not feel that marital status or sexual orientation determines who makes good parents or who should have access to the family building through surrogacy, rather we look to see who is capable of caring for and loving a child or children.
Which type of medical facilities do you work with?
Gifted Journeys works with only the best IVF clinics and physicians in the country with extensive experience in surrogacy. We pride ourselves on good, open relationships with our doctors and staff so that someone is always there holding the surrogate’s hand throughout the surrogacy process.
Will I have a background check prior to being accepted into the surrogacy program?
Yes. Gifted Journeys does a background check on all surrogates and any adults who live in the same home.
