Our Gifted Journeys Physician Spotlight today is on Dr. Said Daneshmand with San Diego Fertility Center.
Gifted Journeys has had a 100% successful transfer rate with Dr. Daneshmand so far in 2018 and zero donor hyper-stimulation cases with him since we began working together in 2014.  For these, and many other reasons, we are choosing to highlight Dr. D in our next spotlight series!
1.) Tell us about where you work and how long you’ve been practicing in the ART field?
I’m currently on a team of five physicians privileged to serve at the San Diego Fertility Center. I entered the industry in 1999, when I started my career at the Fertility Center of Las Vegas.
2.) What are your notable career highlights?
The highlights of my career include playing center for the 2010 Los Angeles Lakers, wide receiver for the 2011 Green Bay Packers and shortstop for the 2016 Chicago Cubs. Haha.  While I am kidding, I genuinely feel this way — like I’m part of a world champion sports team with the cheering crowds, the rings, the champagne, everything  — each and every time I help coax into reality the dream of a patient who desperately wants a baby but has lost all hope.
Of course, if you want to see my official CV, it’s on the San Diego Fertility Center website.
3.) What makes you different from other RE’s?
Keeping your skills sharp, your research cutting-edge and your eye on what’s next in technology are all very important. Everyone on the forefront of ART does this. And I can’t speak for all of us, but I know that I’m probably more about what’s best for the individual journey. Before I plan, I listen carefully. My time is limited, so I use that time to get to know each patient as personally as possible. Sometimes, the plan we come up with doesn’t even involve me or our clinic, and I end up with a new friend instead of a new patient.
4.) What do you love most about our field?
I love just about everything, but honestly, nothing tops the feeling I get when a patient or couple who has tried everything in the world to become a parent, stops by the clinic. With their child.
5.) What is your very best advice to new IPs starting their ART journey?
Find a doctor you jell with. That’s important. But finding a great lab, with a stellar track record, is just as important. Doing the research increases your odds of success. Come up with a plan that makes you happy and then steel yourself. You’re headed into battle. Treatment can be crazy expensive and emotional, but perseverance almost always pays off.
